Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 5, 2026
Last updated: June 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Caldee(“Caldee,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Caldee iPhone app and related services (the “Service”). By using Caldee, you agree to the practices described here.
We built Caldee to be private by design: your health information is used only to power the app's features, and we never sell your data.
1. Information we collect
Account data
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we collect your name, email address, and a user IDused to identify your account. This is stored in our cloud database (Supabase) so your data syncs across sessions and devices. If you use Sign in with Apple's “Hide My Email” feature, we receive a private relay email instead of your personal address.
Health & fitness data
With your explicit permission, Caldee reads the following from Apple Health (HealthKit): weight, water intake, steps, and active & resting energy. We may write your weight back to Apple Health when you log it in the app. We also store the food and nutrition you log (meals, calories, macros, fiber, sugar, sodium, water).
Health data is used only to power the app's features — calculating your daily calorie balance, tracking trends, streaks, and your personalized target. Your health and fitness data is never used for advertising or marketing, and is never sold or shared with third parties for their own use. Data obtained from HealthKit is handled in accordance with Apple's HealthKit requirements.
Meal photos & text you submit for AI analysis
When you log a meal by photo or text, the image or description you submit is sent to OpenAI's API to identify the foods and estimate their nutrition. This transfer is necessary to provide the AI logging feature. We send only the content you choose to analyze; we do not attach your name or contact details to these requests. OpenAI processes this content to return a result to the app. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in photos or text you submit. AI-generated estimates are approximate and are not medical or dietary advice.
Food database lookups
When you scan a barcode or search for packaged foods, Caldee queries public food databases — USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts — to retrieve nutrition information. These lookups send the barcode or search term, not your identity.
Support messages
If you email us for help, we store your message and contact details so we can respond and improve our support.
Notifications
Caldee schedules local reminders (for example, meal and weigh-in reminders or streak nudges) directly on your device. These are generated on-device and are not used to track you.
2. How we use your information
- To provide core features: logging meals, calorie balance, trends, and streaks.
- To sync your data across sessions and keep your account secure.
- To analyze meal photos and text and return nutrition estimates.
- To respond to support requests and fix problems.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your data for third-party advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
3. How your data is stored & who processes it
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers (“sub-processors”) to run Caldee:
- Supabase — authentication and cloud database hosting for your account and synced data.
- OpenAI — AI analysis of the meal photos and text you submit.
- USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts — public nutrition lookups for packaged foods.
- Apple — App Store distribution, sign-in, HealthKit, and subscription billing.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments.
4. Subscriptions & payments
Caldee offers optional subscriptions sold through the Apple App Store. All payments are handled by Apple — we never receive or store your payment card details. Apple shares limited transaction information with us (such as whether a subscription is active) so we can unlock features. Manage or cancel a subscription in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone.
5. Your rights & choices
You are in control of your data. You can:
- Access & correct your profile and logs directly in the app.
- Delete your account and associated cloud data in Profile → Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing uswith the subject “Delete my data.”
- Revoke Apple Health accessanytime in the Health app → Sharing → Apps & Services → Caldee.
- Disable notifications in iOS Settings → Notifications → Caldee.
6. Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your associated personal data from our systems within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited information to meet legal, security, or accounting obligations. Meal content sent for AI analysis is processed to return a result and is not retained by us as a separate long-term store beyond your logged entries.
7. International data transfers
Caldee is operated using service providers located in the United States (including Supabase, OpenAI, and Apple). If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. and other countries that may have different data-protection laws than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.
8. Your rights in the EU & UK (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Our legal bases for processing are: performance of a contract (to provide the Service you request), your consent (for HealthKit access and notifications, which you can withdraw at any time), and our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the Service). You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise your rights, contact us.
9. Your rights in California (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law. To make a request, email us; we will verify your request using the email associated with your account.
10. Children's privacy
Caldee is intended for users aged 16 and older and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encryption in transit and access controls on our database — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data and limit access to it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Caldee after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
